about

"It can be tough to outrun the choices we make," says singer-songwriter T. Buckley about his first new song since his 2018 album 'Miles We Put Behind.' The Canadian Folk Music award nominated Buckley penned "Before I Get to Turn Around" after receiving a late-night phone call from an old friend who was driving to a new town to start over. He was just one of a number of young men from Buckley’s childhood community in south Calgary who had found themselves caught up in drug trafficking or victims of overdose. The song highlights T. Buckley’s strength: the ability to observe and empathize with different life experiences, then craft relatable songs that have earned him nine weeks in the national CBC Top 20 radio chart, three Calgary Music Awards and showcases at Kerrville Folk Festival, three Folk Alliance regional conferences and at the Americana Music Festival in 2019.

"How far do I have to run, to leave behind the things I've done," T. Buckley sings over a powerful roots/rock melody that's as at home on mainstream radio as it is on folk-roots shows. It definitively shows T. Buckley need not be running from anything, because with this new material he’s committed to being a fixture in the Americana music scene.

lyrics

LYRICS:

Tonight my highway companions are the stardust and the moon
Cigarette, dashboard radio, going in and out of tune
I'm running out of chances, so I gotta make this count
The things I've learned to live with, I'm trying to put them down

How a siren from a cop car could make my heartbeat race
The made-up occupations to try and save face
All of the phone calls late at night
Desperation in the voices on the end of the line

So I'm drivin' far away, somewhere that I can turn the page
Will this dark road break me down, before I get to turn around

We used to tell ourselves it was just boys being boys
One day you're pushing forty, it's still the same old noise
Pushing powder, pills, methamphetamine
From the addicts on the corner to the rich kid party scene

So I'm drivin' far away, somewhere that I can turn the page
Will this dark road break me down, before I get to turn around

How far do I have to run
To leave behind the things I've done

So I'm drivin' far away, somewhere that I can turn the page
Will this dark road break me down, before I get to turn around

So I'm drivin' far away, somewhere that I can turn the page
Willl this dark road break me down, before I get to turn around
Before I get to turn around
